Family and friends of missing man Tej Chitnis are asking the public to look out for details which could help find him.

The 21-year-old was last seen on April 27, leaving his home in Burwood East. He was driving a silver VW Golf car and did not return home at 4pm as expected.

Tej is a student at Deakin University and son of an RMIT staffer. His family are desperate to find him safe.

Victoria Police issued a statement saying they have concerns for Tej as “his behaviour is out of character”.

Members of the local community have come together to form a search party lead by the Chitnis family.

“We just went up to the Healesville area to put up posters as far as we could go, even down to Warburton,” Tej’s brother, Rudra told Catalyst.

“Everyone’s ready to help, there’s just no new information.”

The family have asked for the public to be on the look-out for a silver VW Golf with the number plate TTF-517. Tej is described as medium build with dark hair and brown eyes.

Any members of the public with information are encouraged to call Forrest Hill Police Station on 8847 3600 or triple zero. A Facebook page “Help Find Tej Chitnis” has also been set up for anyone to get in touch.

“I just want to know that he’s safe, I think that’s what’s important,” said Rudra

“He can stay out as long as he wants, just as long as he’s safe.”
