Get Yourselves To Sydney Road, Brunswick TONIGHT!

by Katie Coulthard | @coulthard_katie

This post is sponsored by the Sydney Road Brunswick Association.

Everyone’s favourite Inner North shopping destination is channelling Hollywood and hosting a short film competition.

The Sydney Road Brunswick Association is giving young, newbie filmmakers the opportunity to test out their skills and create a five-minute short film or music video. Cool, right?

Although entries have now closed, the lucky ones are in with a chance to win a share of a $5000 prize pool.

There’s $3000 up for grabs to be awarded to King/Queen of the open genre category– Sydney Road.

Another $1500 will be given away to the most impressive music video, celebrating Brunswick’s well-known, vibrant local music scene. There’s also a Judges’ Encouragement Award on offer too.

The first films will be screened in true, ultra hip Brunswick style, at the Penny Black and Bar Estella on Tuesday April 12th (tonight) and 14th (Tursday). Attendees are encouraged to socialise, have a drink and enjoy the atmos before the show kicks off around 7pm.

The Grand Finale will air under the stars at the brand new Wilson Avenue Park (just near Jewell Station) on April 21st. It’s all happening from 6.30pm. With the temperature plummeting and Melbourne’s weather ever unpredictable, it might be a good idea to rug up with gloves and scarves to be prepared for the elements.

So who is going to decide the winner you may ask? Only the best of the best, of course!

The judging panel includes Andrew Sully, an ABC film producer, Radha O’Meara from Melbourne Uni and Monster and Bear, a great local film company dedicated to giving emerging filmmakers a chance to show their flair.

There’s another bonus too–it’s just a gold coin donation to attend a screening and $5 for the grand finale, with all proceeds going straight to the good people at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

So cancel tonight’s plans, top up your myki, jump on a no. 19 tram to Sydney Road and be part of the lights, camera and action.
