Mssingno – XE2 (DEER Remix): Review

Your Thursday is about to get a lot livelier, and possibly more flirtatious, thanks to DEER’s remix of Mssingno’s ‘XE2’. Melbourne-based producer DEER’s future bass style is infused within this track and if you like Ryan Hemsworth’s music, then you’re going to love this.

London-based producer Mssingno’s original, which repetitively samples R Kelly’s ‘I’m a Flirt’, gets an upbeat makeover in this track. The remix features a higher tempo, heavier bass, bouncier percussion, added drops and chopped vocals coming at you left, right and centre. These all come together to make it a dance track you’ll definitely want to hear when DEER drops it live.

The energetic remix retains the sexy vocals at the beginning and all the features of the calmer original, but enhances it to create a completely different, and arguably better, style. It’s going to make you want to come out of the closet, and onto the dance floor, and even though hearing R. Kelly singing “a dog on the prowl when I’m walking through the mall” can be slightly unsettling, the track is anything but that.

DEER might only has one track available on his Soundcloud account, but his ‘Keep Watch’ mix for street-wear label Mishka NYC and Jersey Club style ‘Love Hearts EP’ released on Pilerats records, go to show why he’s one to keep an eye out for.

The up-and-coming producer has worked alongside international kings of Jersey Club such as Djemba Djemba, Trippy Turtle, DJ Sliink, DJ Hoodboi, Dirty South Joe and Paul Devro. He’s also supported international talent like Ryan Hemsworth, Jeremih and Sweater Beats.

You’ll want to catch his latest mix which is free via his Soundcloud, so you’ve really got no reason to not to check it out.

You can also catch DEER and get down to his track during his upcoming shows on Thursday, 3rd of July at the Liberty Social supporting NYC producer Sweater Beats (HW&W) in Melbourne, and on Friday 11th July at Gilkinson Dance Studio in Perth, alongside fellow Melbourne producer Tomderson.
