The student union rep for East Bundoora has resigned and been replaced, with the union voting in a new rep unanimously.
Samuel Weston has resigned as RMIT University Student Union’s (RUSU) Bundoora East Representative after being elected unopposed to the position in 2014 at the RUSU elections in September.
RUSU unanimously voted in Lachlan Theobald as Weston’s replacement last week.
RUSU President Himasha Fonseka said he’s sad to see Weston go but knows “he’s going on to bigger and brighter things”.
“He was a very dedicated individual who did a lot of good work in Bundoora East. I want to thank him for his service to RUSU and to the Bundoora Campus,” Fonseka says.
Fonseka is excited to work with Theobald, believing he is an active campaigner for student rights at Bundoora East.
“He knows the campus really well; he knows the student cohort,” Fonseka said. “He came on board with a lot of good ideas which I was really interested by.”
Theobald said he’s “pretty chuffed” to get the position and will look to improve campus life for students at the satellite campus.
“Basically, I’ll be focussing on improving campus life with events with a focus on improving amenities,” Theobald said.
According to his final report listed in a recent RUSU Student Union Council Agenda, Weston resigned due to “increasing academic and work commitments”.
Weston could not be reached for comment by Catalyst despite multiple attempts to contact him.
