Applications Open for the 2022 Cultural Visions Grant

RMIT Culture have now opened applications for the 2022 Cultural Visions Grant!

The Cultural Visions Grant is a fantastic opportunity for RMIT artists who are keen to create a piece exploring the dynamics and exchange of culture within Australia – whether it relate to past, present or future. The $3,000 grant will propel your proposed work that highlights the diversity of voices in Australia, one being awarded to an undergraduate student and one to a postgraduate student.

Your proposed creative work can be anything from a film or sculpture, and should reflect diversity and encourage your peers’ awareness of different cultures.

Previous grants had been awarded to Chad O’Brien, which allowed his film Wirun to gain recognition at MIFF and Hawaii International Film Festival, and Varuni Kanagasundaram, who created the project ‘Messages That Link Us – Kolam Ritual Drawing’, that Kanagasundaram created to convey displacement, loss and meaning in connection to culture and community.

Applications close 7 May 2022. To enter, the instructions are as followed from RMIT Culture:

To be eligible for the grant, applicants need to be currently enrolled at RMIT in standard semester 1, 2021; able to demonstrate a lived experience of cultural diversity; be available to attend an interview if shortlisted, and be able and committed to producing the project within the year of receiving the award.

To apply, submit an application package that consists of:

  • a sample of your work;
  • a project proposal, no more than three pages, which includes a description of the proposed project and the reason for choosing the proposed project;
  • a summary risk assessment* of the project;
  • a statement of the benefit of the project to the location and people involved (Australia or overseas);
  • and an outline of the medium which will be used and what the outcome will be.

Good luck and get creating!
